A Golden Day at the Crow Mercado
Family Day at the Crow Mercado was truly golden.
What made it so precious? Was it the shining spring weather? Did the fountain add its sparkle? Was it the smiling children riding their bikes or the cheerful adults enjoying a delicious meal?
I believe it was golden because of the radiant faces of the people who came. From the Purple Crow employees who gathered with their families, to our community partners—Health and Human Services, Human Relations, Senior Services, Twin City Bike Collective, and the NC Museum of Art—each person contributed to something special. Together, they formed a community that made the day unforgettable.
I believe we all carry a deep longing to be recognized and acknowledged within community. We catch a glimpse of something heavenly when we are truly seen and appreciated by one another. Family Day is meant to do just that—to bring us together for the simple and profound joy of being together.
I use the language of “golden” because of Allen Levi’s wonderful novel, Theo of Golden. In it, every encounter becomes a celebration of God’s craftsmanship in each person. It is a calling toward an eternal community—a vision of heaven itself—where beauty is recognized and honored, and where, as scripture tells us, the streets are paved with gold.
